In October 2020, we started charging for our plastic bags. This is standard practice in shops and complies with current government legislations.
In September 2021, we launched paper bags, a more environmentally sound alternative designed to replace our plastic bags in the long term. In further efforts to promote sustainable practices, paper bags, like plastic bags, incur a 10p charge in the hope that it discourages customers from using them and encourages them instead to use our bags for life, which can be used over and over again, and are a far better product for the environment.
In October 2021, we started charging for all types of bag:
- Standard bags continue at 10p (including Foodhall Brown paper bag)
- Luxury (gift) bags are charged at 50p
- Hamper bags are charged at £1
In continuing on our Future Matters journey, and our impact on the worlds finite resources, we would like to see bag usage drop and therefore there is a small charge for all bags in all stores.
All money raised through our bag charges will be donated to our charity of the year – Centrepoint.
We are the first luxury retailer in the UK to charge for all of our bags, pioneering this change, and hopefully inspiring others to follow suit.
