We are currently in a transitional period with our tea packaging as we continue our efforts to remove single-use plastic from the business. The cellophane overwrap that has been used to protect our tea tins and cartons is being phased out, to be replaced with small compostable tamper seals made from plastic-free Natureflex cellulose film from Eucalyptus trees. These new tamper seals have the appearance of plastic, but are actually made of plant-based home compostable material.
Through extensive trialling, we have ensured that the new tamper seals provide the same protection to our tins and cartons as the cellophane overwrap – it is not possible to open a product without damaging the tamper seal.
You may therefore still receive some tea caddies and teabag cartons wrapped in cellophane as we use up existing stock.
On some of these cartons and tins, the recycling statement still refers to the cellophane overwrap and states that it should not be recycled, even though we have already made the switch to the new home compostable seals. We are in the process of updating this statement across the range.
